Lembur Bon of Kuakata: A Perfect Harmony of Sea and Lush Green Forest

Kuakata is a unique creation of nature. Tucked away in the heart of this scenic destination lies a slice of green paradise known as Lembur Bon (Lembur Forest). Located just 5 kilometers west of the main Kuakata sea beach, this forest is a major attraction for nature lovers and adventure-seeking tourists. If you want to experience the roaring waves of the sea alongside the soothing breeze of the tamarisk (tamarisk/casuarina) trees, Lembur Bon is the absolute perfect place for you.

Why Should You Visit Lembur Bon?

The Green Canopy of Tamarisk Trees: Although named 'Lembur' (which means lemon), you will find vastly more tamarisk trees here than lemon trees. Sprawling across miles, this coastal forest enhances the beauty of the beach manifold. Walking through the forest while listening to the rustling of leaves and the whistling wind will instantly calm your mind.

Mesmerizing Sunsets: The sunset view from Lembur Bon is nothing short of spectacular. Watching the crimson sun gradually sink into the horizon of the vast sea, creating a magical play of colors across the sky and water, is bound to leave you spellbound.

A Red Carpet of Crabs: In the early morning, hordes of red crabs emerge all over the beach. The moment they catch the sound of human footsteps, they swiftly scurry back into their sand holes—a truly delightful sight to watch.

The Taste of Fresh Seafood: Right next to Lembur Bon, there are several small food shacks. They will fry or barbecue freshly caught sea crabs, shrimp, pomfret, or coral fish right before your eyes, customized with spices of your choice. Enjoying hot seafood while sitting on the beach is an unforgettable experience.

How to Get There?

You can easily rent a motorbike, van, or easy-bike (locally known as Tomtom) from the main Zero Point of Kuakata to reach Lembur Bon. The scenic countryside and the dry fish villages (Shutki Palli) on both sides of the road will make your journey even more enjoyable.

⚠️ Cautionary Note:

Generally, Lembur Bon is completely safe and an amazing place for tourists during the day. However, due to some specific reasons, you should be cautious or avoid visiting after late afternoon or during the evening. The reasons are summarized below:

Isolated Environment: Lembur Bon is located slightly far and in a secluded corner from the main beach of Kuakata. While there is a good flow of tourists during the day, the area becomes completely isolated after evening. Due to the lack of adequate lighting, a decrease in the crowd can lead to security vulnerabilities.

High Tides: During high tide, the low-lying areas inside Lembur Bon and the beach get submerged rapidly. The tidal pull is exceptionally strong during the new moon or full moon phase. If a high tide suddenly rushes in while you are inside the forest, finding your way back can become dangerous.

Lack of Nearby Localities & Security: After dark, the surveillance of local and tourist police around the forest drops significantly compared to the main beach. Therefore, staying there after evening in small groups or alone carries a risk of mugging or other unpleasant situations.

Tips for a Safe Trip:

Plan your visit for the afternoon and make sure to head back to the main beach or your hotel immediately after sunset (while there is still daylight).

Avoid going alone; always travel in groups or with your family.

Before heading out, it is wise to consult a local motorbike or easy-bike driver to get an idea about the high and low tide timings.

If you follow the guidelines and visit during daylight hours, Lembur Bon will undoubtedly be one of the best highlights of your Kuakata trip!
